As much as I understand the urge to play with the template most sites try not to crowd the screen for users. User stats (post counts etc) are not normally visible at all times as there are pop up alerts etc that tell you when you have a pm. You can access your profile through the profile link up top so that is not needed over there either <<<
Users online is often left at the bottom of the forum layout to keep it out of the way so it doesn't distract people but as to the large empty box on the left I guess you have a plan for it lol. One thing to remember is any changes to the template can throw off the formatting of the page and you end up with crowded links, off center items etc.
Also what's the "Other" link up top for? You haven't been letting DJF play again have you?
